Roku

Is it the Roku, or the app you’re opening?

Every service we track is behaving normally right now, so the problem is more likely at your end than theirs. Two questions will narrow it down.

Fixes for the Roku itself

Roku problems usually come down to one of three things: the app, the box’s connection, or a stalled update. Work through these in order — the first one fixes most cases.

Try this first

Restart the Roku properly

about 2 minutes
  1. 1.Press the Home button on the remote.
  2. 2.Scroll down to Settings, then System.
  3. 3.Choose System restart, then Restart.
  4. 4.Wait for it to come back to the home screen before opening anything.
Then 2

Power cycle it at the wall

about 3 minutes
  1. 1.Unplug the Roku from power. Turning the TV off is not enough.
  2. 2.Wait 10 seconds.
  3. 3.Plug it back in and wait for the home screen.
  4. 4.This clears faults that a software restart leaves behind.
Then 3

Check for a system update

about 5 minutes
  1. 1.Press Home, then Settings, then System.
  2. 2.Choose System update, then Check now.
  3. 3.Install anything it finds and let it restart.
Then 4

Remove and re-add the app

about 5 minutes
  1. 1.Highlight the app on the home screen and press the ✻ (star) button.
  2. 2.Choose Remove channel, then Remove.
  3. 3.Restart the Roku from Settings, then System, then System restart.
  4. 4.Add the app again from the Streaming Channels store and sign in.
