About itsnotworking.info
One question: is this your problem, or everyone's problem?
When something stops playing, there are only two possibilities, and knowing which one you’re in changes what you should do next. If it’s everyone, you stop trying and wait. If it’s you, there’s usually a fix that takes two minutes. Most sites in this space answer neither question well.
How we decide whether something is down
Three signals, weighted deliberately.
- What people report. Current volume compared against that service’s own normal level for this time of day. This is the primary signal.
- Whether the service answers our server. Cheap and available from day one. But it’s a floor, never the verdict — a service can return a perfectly healthy response while playback is broken for millions.
- What the service admits. Treated asymmetrically on purpose. If a service says it’s having an outage, we believe it completely. If it says everything is fine, we ignore that entirely. Nobody falsely admits to being broken; claiming health during an outage is routine.
What we won’t do
- Round report counts up, scale them, or seed them with fake activity.
- Show a timestamp that’s newer than the data behind it.
- Fake a delay on a refresh that didn’t actually re-check anything.
- Treat a failed reachability check as proof of an outage — services block checkers.
- Present a guess with the same confidence as a conclusion.
- Edit history. If a past verdict was wrong, it stays with a correction attached.
If a choice ever trades accuracy for engagement, we take the accuracy. The whole product is the claim that we tell the truth; there isn’t anything else here.
What we don’t track
Devices. “Is Roku down” isn’t a meaningful question — a Roku fails one household at a time, so there’s no fleet-wide signal to crowdsource. A device outage indicator would be a guess dressed up as data. Device pages carry help content only.
Who we are not
We’re not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any service listed here. We use their names to describe them, which is normal and defensible; we don’t use their logos, their brand colours, or any design that might imply this is an official status page.
