Chromecast
Is it the Chromecast, or the app you’re opening?
Every service we track is behaving normally right now, so the problem is more likely at your end than theirs. Two questions will narrow it down.
Fixes for the Chromecast itself
Almost every Chromecast problem is a network mismatch — the phone and the Chromecast being on different Wi-Fi networks, usually a 2.4GHz and 5GHz split.
Try this first
Check both devices are on the same Wi-Fi
about 2 minutes- 1.On your phone, open Settings, then Wi-Fi, and note the exact network name.
- 2.Open the Google Home app and select your Chromecast, then the gear icon.
- 3.Compare the Wi-Fi name shown there. If they differ, join your phone to the same one.
- 4.Many routers list a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz network separately — these count as different networks.
Then 2
Restart the Chromecast
about 2 minutes- 1.Unplug the Chromecast from power at the wall or the TV’s USB port.
- 2.Wait 10 seconds.
- 3.Plug it back in and wait for the home screen.
Then 3
Force-quit the casting app on your phone
about 1 minute- 1.Swipe up from the bottom of your phone screen and hold.
- 2.Swipe the app away to close it fully.
- 3.Reopen it and try casting again.
Then 4
Factory reset as a last resort
about 10 minutes- 1.With the Chromecast plugged in, press and hold the button on its side.
- 2.Keep holding for about 25 seconds until the light flashes and the TV goes blank.
- 3.Set it up again from the Google Home app.
